Students invited to discover their future at UTC Plymouth

Students entering year 10 or 12 in September have a chance to learn about what their future may hold when UTC Plymouth and its employer partners host an open day at the college this Thursday (16 October).

Taking place at 5:30pm this Thursday, prospective students will have the chance to tour the state-of-the-art engineering facilities, talk to current students and teachers and even talk to some of the College’s employer partners to learn more about what their future holds after study.

A perfect choice for students who have a passion for science and engineering, UTC Plymouth strives to prepare them for their future, regardless of whether that’s further study at college or university, an apprenticeship or employment.

Mary Cox, Principal at UTC Plymouth, spoke about the open day: “At UTC Plymouth, we are constantly looking to equip our students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the world of work. Working in partnership with some of the region’s leading employers we deliver a perfect mix of theoretical and practical learning, to allow our students to apply the academic theories learnt in the classroom to real life practical projects in the workshop.

“By joining us at our open day, students can find out more about what they will learn with us, how this can be applied to live projects and, importantly, see how this fits with the skills and expertise that employers are looking for from their workforce. Everything we do at UTC Plymouth is with an eye to our students’ futures and at our open day, prospective students and their parents can begin to see what that future could hold.”

Alongside UTC Plymouth staff and students, a number of their employer partners will be in attendance. Representatives from Princess Yachts, MGB Ltd, UTC Aerospace and Spinnaker will be available to answer any questions students and parents may have. They’ll be able to discuss the skills students will need and the types of jobs that could be waiting for them after their time at UTC Plymouth. Plymouth University will also be present informing potential students of the opportunities waiting for them at university.

The open day comes just after UTC Plymouth announced their new affiliation with the Royal Navy. The College has joined an exclusive group of colleges which will see students be informed of the career opportunities that lie with the Royal Navy. The affiliation will bring about a number of challenging and exciting projects, visits to naval facilities and careers advice from a wide range of naval professionals, so students can hear first-hand what a career in the Royal Navy could offer. The Royal Navy will be at the open day with more information on the affiliation.

Those interested in attending the open day on Thursday 16th October can register to attend on the College’s website or by calling 01752 284250. The open day will start at 5:30pm at the College’s Park Avenue location in Devonport. For more information and to register for the open day, visit www.utcplymouth.org.
