Plymouth Adult and Community Learning Service (PACLS) have now been approved by the UK’s leading qualification and membership body for accounting staff. The AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Accounting Qualification is universally respected and internationally recognised.

Councillor Sue McDonald, Cabinet Member for Children, Young people and Public health says: “For many years PACLS have offered accounting packages and book-keeping courses in the city, so it’s wonderful news they can now offer learners the opportunity to move forward within their chosen profession and gain such a prestigious qualification. Employers respect AAT qualified members for their knowledge, skills, diligence and enthusiasm, because AAT represents the highest standards of professionalism.”

PACLS has recognised that an AAT qualification is a route to some of the most in-demand skills in the world, and once achieved provides learners with a professional status they can be proud of and will support advancement in a chosen career.

PACLS will start by offering in September 2014 the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accountancy. At this level the units covered include:

Accounts Preparation
Preparing Final Accounts for Sole Traders and Partnerships
Cost and Revenues
Indirect Taxes
Professional Ethics
Spreadsheet Preparation
Learning will be classroom based with monthly Saturday revision workshops. Learners are encouraged to complete home study and revision between classes. The course is open to learners who have previously completed AAT Level 2, Computerised Accounts Level 3 or Manual Bookkeeping Level 2.
