Competition was fierce at a recent Plymouth School Sports Partnership primary basketball competition held at Ridgeway School.

Seven schools from across Plymouth played against each other in a round robin competition. Three points were awarded for a win, two for a draw and one for a loss. The event was refereed by young leaders from Ridgeway School.

“Our young referees were professional, friendly and a real credit to Ridgeway School,” said Claire Crowther, Specialist PE teacher. “I would personally like to thank all of the young leaders for their great work. Basketball is a very difficult sport to referee and I thought they did a great job. We were also fortunate enough to have volunteers from Plymouth University and students from Marjons who were a fantastic help with scoring the games and manning the score tables.”

The overall winners were Drake Primary who won all of their games. Keyham Barton were a very close second and with only one point behind them were Salisbury Road. The top two teams have been invited to play in an exhibition match before one the of Plymouth Raiders’ Games at the Pavilions.

“I was so impressed with the level of ability that the young people in our schools displayed. There was some fantastic play and dazzling shots,” said Claire Crowther.
