Lifeworks students teambuilding a plastic beach clean

14 Lifeworks students were fortunate to have the opportunity to attend a full funded session at Mount Batten Watersports & Activities Centre funded by Surfers Against Sewage.

The action-packed day involved developing teamwork skills on bell boots where students supported each other on the water. This was a new experience for many students and one which was fully embraced.

After lunch in the sunshine, the students took part in a beach clean where they removed bits of plastic from the beach to make it pleasant for everyone who visits and preventing further plastic pollution entering the ocean.

Stuart Devlin, Lifeworks marketing and communications officer said; "It was fantastic day out for all the students and Lifeworks are so grateful to Mount Batten Watersports and Activities Centre. They are fully inclusive and make all adventurous activities that are fully open to anyone who wishes to participate, whatever capacity and to whatever level the individual desires.

At Lifeworks Learning Disability Charity we have are continuing to sponsor the accessibility and inclusivity category at the Devon Tourism Awards 2023/24, so we are able to raise awareness to those Devon tourism businesses, like Mount Batten who are providing truly memorable visitor experiences for everyone, particularly those with accessibility and learning disability requirements. Equally important was that the lifeworks students were able to contribute to the help clean up Plymouth’s Waterfront and become part of a movement to reduce plastic entering our Ocean.”
