THIS YEAR’S AUTUMN HALF TERM HOLIDAY WAS A TRUE CELEBRATION OF LIFE AND LEARNING

The autumn half term can be a magical time for anyone, but for the young members of the Lifeworks Holiday Group, it’s a week filled with smiles, laughter, and unforgettable experiences. With a focus on creating moments of joy and togetherness for children with learning disabilities, this year’s half term holiday was a true celebration of life and learning.

PUMPKIN PICKING AND CARVING

The holiday kicked off with a visit to a local pumpkin patch at The Colourful Cow As the group meandered through the field, they were met with a sea of vibrant orange, green, and white pumpkins waiting to be picked. For many, this was a new and exciting experience. The children embraced the challenge, selecting pumpkins of all shapes and sizes, from tiny gourds to massive jack-o’-lantern contenders.

Back at the Lifeworks college, the creative process began. With guidance from skilled instructors, the children got to work carving their pumpkins. This task required focus and coordination, making it an excellent opportunity for personal growth. The faces that emerged on the pumpkins told stories of determination and pride, each one reflecting the unique spirit of its creator.

EXPLORING NATURE AT COCKINGTON PARK

The excitement continued with a day trip to Cockington Park, a picturesque, historic village nestled within a country park. Here, the group immersed themselves in the natural beauty of the season. Surrounded by centuries-old trees, blooming gardens, and the serenity of ornamental lakes, the children enjoyed the great outdoors.

The day at Cockington Park was a reminder of how learning can take place outside the classroom, fostering a love and respect for the environment. For children with learning disabilities, connecting with the outdoors can be particularly empowering, and this experience was no exception.

SALTRAM HOUSE: A JOURNEY THROUGH HISTORY

The next stop on this adventure was Saltram House, a grand Georgian mansion set in a beautiful landscape park. For the Lifeworks Holiday Group, this outing was more than just a historical visit; it was a chance to step back in time and witness history in all its glory.

One of the group’s favourite moments was exploring the park surrounding Saltram House. With its stunning gardens, serene lakes, and breath-taking views of the River Plym, the natural beauty of the estate captivated the young adults. The trip wasn’t just a history lesson but a sensory-rich adventure that allowed the students to truly engage with their surroundings,

BAKING BLISS

To wrap up the holiday, the Lifeworks Holiday Group decided to explore the world of baking. Guided by patient instructors, the children rolled up their sleeves and got creative in the kitchen. They mixed, measured, and decorated their sweet creations, all while learning valuable life skills in a fun and supportive environment.

The Lifeworks Holiday Group’s half term adventure was not just a series of fun activities; it was a celebration of learning, inclusivity, and the beauty of embracing the world with open hearts and minds. For these children, the holiday was a journey of personal growth, a chance to create lasting memories, and a reminder that every season can be filled with happiness and opportunities for growth, regardless of ability or disability.

In the warm afterglow of the half term holiday, the Lifeworks Holiday Group’s smiles told the story best – a story of empowerment, friendship, and a bright future filled with endless possibilities.
