Established local businessman and owner of the Sutton Road HiQ Plymouth, Bob Saunders has set off on a charitable journey that will see him take on the famous Monte Carlo or Bust rally. In a bid to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care, Bob will drive over 1,000 miles, visit three different countries and do it all in a V-reg Citroen Belingo.

Commenting before he set off on the adventure Bob said: “It has been a big effort from the team here at HiQ Plymouth, one of the main rules of the rally is that you can’t spend over £250 on your vehicle and with this in mind the team have showed excellent workmanship to get the van in order. The vehicle was originally a builder’s and just sat in our yard full of cement and plaster. We thought it would be the perfect challenge for the lads to put their knowledge and expertise to the test for charity. I am delighted with the work the team has done, I can see why so many of our customers leave here happy, the van has been serviced to the highest standard and flew through its MOT.”

Bob will complete the journey with team mate and fellow local businessman Doug Rogers of Active8 Hire for Macmillan Cancer Care, a charity that is close to both of their hearts.

Bob explained: “Myself and Doug have had friends or family that have been affected by cancer. Macmillan does fantastic work in caring for patients with the terrible disease and we wanted to give something back. Both being in the automotive industry this challenge seemed like the perfect opportunity to raise some money for such a worthy cause.”

The journey will see Bob and Doug travel from Calais to Dijon, Dijon to Turin across the mountains and then finally the last stretch of the adventure will see them go from Turin to Monte Carlo. The pair will arrive in Monte Carlo on Bastille Day on July 14th and then the pair will drive the van back through France and arrive back into Plymouth on 18th July.
