Businesses in Plymouth are being invited to attend a free working breakfast to understand the true cost to them of road safety.

The Better Business breakfast workshop on Tuesday 23 July 2013 at Jurys Inn, Exeter Street, Plymouth between 7.30am to 9.30am will highlight the issue of road safety to local businesses.

It is estimated that a third of all road traffic collisions involve somebody who is at work at the time and according to the Department of Transport this results in some 20 fatalities and 250 serious injuries each week.

This is a sobering thought for any employer, but one that Devon and Cornwall Police believe could be reduced through shared experiences, best practice and increased awareness.

Local police and the Plymouth Better Together Project have joined forces to show the city’s business community what action can be taken to address road safety issues and protect the welfare of employees.

Expert advice will be available from Plymouth’s road traffic team and there will also be a presentation from Tracey Scarr from Arval, Europe’s leading fleet and fuel management company.

Delegates will learn how to implement risk management policies and procedures, manage road safety issues, comply with legal responsibilities, share best practice, get access to police road safety team expertise, understand the financial implications of road safety and support their staff.

“I would urge fleet and health and safety managers to share breakfast with us and be inspired to work together to keep Plymouth’s roads safe for your staff and all road users,” said Tracey Scarr.
