Specialist Prospecting DSP IO is announcing today the appointment of Peter Silverwood as Chief Scientific Officer (CSO). Part of its fast expanding team, Silverwood will overview IO’s Performance and Machine Learning department.

Peter joined IO three years ago and in his role as Performance Manager, he has been integral to the R&D of IO’s proprietary technology that uses Machine Learning to automate and optimise the process of buying online advertising space on behalf of its clients.

IO has rapidly grown into a leading authority in the programmatic and real-time bidding space with an ever-increasing presence in sectors including  travel and leisure, financial services as well as retail.

Peter studied Astrophysics as well as Computer Science at Cambridge and has over 15 years experience in IT, technological developments and big data. Building upon his success in the role of Performance Manager at IO, he will head the development of IO’s expertise in performance and machine learning to deliver greater performance in campaigns for clients.

Prior to IO, Peter has worked with numerous web agencies as well as established companies like training provider Hemsley Fraser, where he served in Analyst and Lead Consulting roles providing outsourcing services to the likes of Rolls Royce.

Peter will now focus on directing the next generation of machine learning algorithms, applying his real world business and technology experience to IO's proprietary platform.

Tom Bowman, Chief Executive Officer at IO commented “We recognised an opportunity to leverage the additional evangelistic opportunities of a Machine Learning figurehead in the creation of this role. I am delighted that IO has reached a scale where we are able to acknowledge such a post, and that we have a candidate worthy to appoint from within. Peter's appointment is well deserved and I’m delighted to have an internal champion dedicated to the importance of our machine learning and campaign intelligence.”

Peter Silverwood, newly appointed Chief Scientific Officer, at IO added, “Performance is all about optimisation and learning what is effective. Ultimately it’s about KPIs and the numbers but it's all done on human time and human scale. With machine learning we can do this real time, and on an unparalleled scale exploiting subtleties and opportunities which would otherwise pass by without even being noticed. The capabilities here are truly exciting.”
