Devon Firm to Launch Pioneering New App

A Devon company is to launch a pioneering new app hailed as the ultimate all-in-one aid for residents and visitors alike in Devon.

Westward M. S. Ltd, a company which creates campaigns for many Devon attractions, has entered a franchise agreement with Seymac Distribution, of Redruth, Cornwall, to develop its new App For concept.

The two firms are long-established and the principal distributors of tourism and leisure promotional material in their respective counties. Seymac has already launched AppforCornwall and is now hoping to roll out the franchise nationwide, county by county.

Westward plans to launch AppforDevon in time for the Easter holidays.

“This App is without doubt breaking new ground in its usefulness and will be a great new service for Devon’s visitors and residents,” said Westward Managing Director Geoffrey Roach.

“In its size, breadth of coverage and speed of use, there is nothing that comes close to it. We are delighted to be in at the start of this exciting new project.”

He added:

“Seymac and Westward have been associates for many years and I am delighted that Westward is to be the first franchisee of Seymac’s pioneering App For series. Our network of display stands and Welcome series of publications will be ideally complimented by AppForDevon.”

AppforDevon will be packed with instantly accessible information on anything and everything in the county, and will also have an associated website.

Categories will include attractions, activities, places to eat, pubs, clubs, shopping, accommodation, vouchers/offers, What’s On, favourites, beaches, garages, medical and emergency, police stations, taxi services, tide times and tourist information centres.

Longer term, there are plans for a host of special articles and facts, blogs, recipes, videos and sections on towns and villages. Satellite navigation will alos be built in.

Seymac Distribution has invested £120,000 in the development of App For.

“We are very confident that the new App will quickly be established as an international market leader,” said Seymac Managing Director Tina Seymour.

“For Devon, the clear aim will be for every visitor and every resident in the county to have this comprehensive, free App on their mobile phones."

“As an example of usefulness, a visitor to Cornwall phoned to thank us for listing the county’s vets as their dog had been badly limping and they urgently needed a vet on a Sunday."

“They had already downloaded our App and so all the information they required was at their fingertips. They didn’t need to google and go through all the vets or, worse, try to find a Yellow Pages where they were staying.”
