The Civica Group, a market leader in business-critical software applications, digital solutions and outsourcing services has acquired specialist software provider Carval Computing Limited.

Plymouth Science Park based Carval provides integrated HR and payroll systems and related payroll processing services.

Its software applications are used in more than 300 installations, ranging from organisations with less than 100 employees to those with more than 10,000.

Customers span both public and private sectors, such as Middlesbrough Council, Staffordshire Housing Association, multi-academy trust E-ACT, the Royal Mint and National Express.

Carval's flexible HR systems include cloud-based solutions, employee self-service technology and mobile apps, providing an efficient modern platform for people, workforce and payroll management.

Carval has continued to perform well into 2017, including new contracts with customers including, among others, CGS Trust, Chelsea Academy and Essex Fire & Rescue Service.

PSP's Director of Operations Christian Jenkins said: “Carval have been on the park for a number of years and it has been great to see how they have grown to a point where a multi-billion group like Civica acquires them."

"This is another example of how PSP can produce businesses that have a national/international profile and follows on the heels of several other acquisitions of PSP businesses.

“Being part of Civica will allow us to continue our current programmes targeted at bringing the most effective modern technology to our customers, with access to a broader set of complementary capabilities and a strong operating platform. The acquisition provides opportunities for the company to build on our success as part of a larger Group which is one of the strongest of its kind and an employer of choice,” said Jason Sweby, Technical Director at Carval.
