Plymouth City Council is making plans to grow the city’s landmark festival to make it bigger and better for 2018.

The Ocean City Festival (OCF) celebrates everything that makes Plymouth’s waterfront location – and its relationship with the sea – so special.

The festival is organised by Plymouth City Council, who work with partners from across the city to deliver an exciting programme to events.

To successfully deliver the vision and ambition of OCF to become a signature event for Britain’s Ocean City, the event will move from an annual to a biennial event. The next OCF will take place in September 2018, which will fall in line with the next Marine Tech Expo.

Councillor Glenn Jordan, Plymouth City Council Cabinet Member for Culture, said, “This is a really positive move for Ocean City Festival, and is fully supported by its partners on the Strategic Group.

“To develop and grow this spectacular event, we need to allow more planning time. With the continued support from our partners, we aim to deliver bigger and better flagship events, which will attract a much wider audience to the city and really celebrate Plymouth’s historic and future relationship with the sea.

“The festival is designed to offer an exciting programme of events which will appeal to all ages, focusing on education, science and technology, business and culture. We look forward to working with our partners on Ocean City Festival 2018, and bringing together an exciting programme of events for everyone to enjoy.”

Chris Arscott, Chair of Ocean City Festival and Plymouth Waterfront Partnership, said, “Ocean City Festival has always offered a real variety of events which appeal for all ages.

Many events across the UK make this move, as it not only allows more planning time to really grow events like this, but also allow time to bid for funding. We want this event to increase our visitor numbers, provide a platform to showcase our world-class marine science organisations, and to inspire the marine scientists of tomorrow. We want Ocean City Festival to grow into an event we can all be very proud of, a signature event for the city.”
