Volunteers are being sought to help with the next stage of improvements to Central Park.

A Central Park Improvements Community Day will take place on Saturday 26 August will give people an update on the work so far and the opportunity to view the concept designs for the play, café and community sports hub proposals.

It will also give people the chance to find out how they can get involved in caring for the park through a new volunteering programme with the Friends of Central Park and Eco Land Management which includes activities like bramble bashing, bulb and tree planting.

The event is suitable for the whole family to try their hand at building a bird box for the park or creating a mini bug hotel to take home.

Councillor Patrick Nicholson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for Strategic Transport, Housing and Planning said: “Central Park is such an important part of Plymouth and volunteering is the perfect way to get involved.

“There are so many different things to get involved in so if you are green fingered, or just fancy the opportunity to get out in the fresh air and meet new people, then come along and find out more.”

The event will be based in and around the clock tower, play area and bowling pavilion between 11am and 3pm and will be hosted by Plymouth City Council’s Natural Infrastructure team.

The popular Camper Obscura, a darkened van which projects images of its surroundings through a periscope, will be present, as will a host of volunteers.
