Tens of thousands of residents and holiday makers will head to Plymouth Hoe for two evenings of spectacular fireworks displays, air shows and family entertainment on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 August.

Sponsored by The Range and hosted by Plymouth City Council and The Event Services Association (TESA) the championships are one of the biggest annual displays put on by professional firework companies in the UK.

Deputy Leader of Plymouth City Council, Pete Smith, said: “The British Firework Championships is a jewel in the crown of Plymouth’s busy events calendar. Plymouth City Council is thrilled to host such a prestigious event in partnership with The Event Services Association (TESA).  We are also delighted that The Range has chosen to sponsor the event.”

This year there will also be two exciting air displays - The Twister Aerobatics display team will be wowing crowds with their electrifying pyrotechnic display on Tuesday 18 August at approximately 9pm and The Royal Air Force’s world-famous aerobatics team, The Red Arrows, will take to the skies on Wednesday 19 August at approximately 7pm.

The firework displays start at around 9.30pm on both nights and are set off over Plymouth’s spectacular waterfront.  There will also be a live music stage run by Heart FM, fairground rides and catering available on The Hoe.

Owner and founder of The Range, Chris Dawson said: “The Range is very pleased to sponsor this year’s British Firework Championships.  We have the largest collection of fireworks on sale, so supporting this event will play a big part in letting punters know that we are the place to go for the best fireworks in town. This year the event is bigger and better than ever and we should be proud to show the world what a great city we have.”

Special Park and Ride services are being provided especially for the event by First Devon and Cornwall, who will be running regular buses from the George Junction, Milehouse and Coypool sites on both nights.

After the Event services PR1 and PR2 will run from 10.10pm until all passengers have been cleared and will only pick up from Stop A11 on Royal Parade. Other City Centre stops - the Viaduct, Charles Street (Drake Circus Mall), Mayflower Street and Western Approach will NOT be served.

Many of the city’s main car parks will be open 24 hours with Western Approach and Lambhay Hill open until midnight.  Drake Circus will also be operating extended opening hours until 12pm. The Sutton Harbour lock bridge will remain operational until 11.30pm on both evenings.
