Seas the Day were this year’s winners at the Young Enterprise Awards in Plymouth last night.

The team from Plymouth High School for Girls won the overall best Company award  beating students from four other schools across the city.

Presenting the award was councillor Dr John Mahoney, former Lord Mayor of Plymouth.

Apprentice star Brett Butler-Smythe also attended the event. Brett has been an inspiration to the students throughout the process, sharing tips and advice along the way.

Brett said: "I see a lot of myself in these young people, and I'm behind the message that honest hard work, education and determination means that you can succeed, no matter where you've come from.”

Through the Young Enterprise Company Programme, the students are able to launch and manage a real-life business. The scheme helps to empower the youngsters by helping them to make the connection between school and the world of work and develop the knowledge and attitudes they need to develop a real and marketable product or service.

The local Young Enterprise board is seeking support from business people to help run the invaluable programme with school students again next year, either through volunteering their time or through corporate sponsorship. If you can help please contact Young Enterprise Area Manager Stephanie Anderson on 07903029554.
