PEC was awarded the prestigious award of BEST COMMUNITY INITIATIVE at the prestigious Green Energy Awards in Bath on Tuesday night. The 13th annual awards ceremony honoured the innovation, dedication and creative ingenuity that has put the South West of England at the forefront of the green energy revolution.

Plymouth Energy Community (PEC) was nominated in the ‘Best Community Initiative Category’ amongst 4 other Community Energy Companies and South West Water and Wadebridge Renewable Energy Network. PEC stood out as winner due to its dual purpose work - helping society’s most vulnerable in Plymouth through its fuel debt and energy advice and delivering local, sustainable energy to the city. Since having been established PEC has saved community organisations through renewable energy and energy efficiency installations £120,000 pa and has delivered over £475,000 financial savings to households as part of PECs energy related services helping the fuel poor. In addition to saving money PEC has built an 18acre Solar Farm at Ernesettle and provide 32 free solar roofs to schools and community organisations across the city. By doing so PEC has saved 3,512 Tonnes of CO2 which is equivalent to planting around 11,700 trees!

Alistair Macpherson (CEO, Plymouth Energy Community): “I am thrilled and honoured that PECs work has received this great accolade.  Our team works super hard to make a difference, and this helps us to spread the word about our services and boosts the teams passion for doing more. Thank you to everyone for their support. Our community share investors are a huge part of our success. Through our latest share offer we have raised over £140,000 towards our solar projects in just the last 7 days.  We have paid our current investors a 6% return for that last 2 years on stakes from £50 - £100,000.   Our latest Community Share Offer closes on Sunday 4th of December so anyone wanting to support our work, and benefit from a target return of 6% return should check out  www.plymouthenergycommunity.com/generate-energy/ernesettle .”

Plymouth City Council was also shortlisted in the MOST PROACTIVE PUBLIC SECTOR ORGANISATION Category at the same awards and Plymouth Energy Communities CEO Alistair Macpherson was shortlisted in the SOUTH WEST SUSTAINABLE ENERGY CHAMPION Category.
