Churches urged to take steps to prevent arson attacks

Ecclesiastical Insurance is urging churches to take steps to deter arsonists over the summer months.

Already this year six churches have been victims of arson, including Bolton Parish Church, St Margaret’s Church in Ilkley and St Chad's Church in Coventry, and the specialist insurer is warning of a potential spike in attacks over the summer holidays.

Two fires at council-owned sheltered properties in Budleigh Salterton confirmed as arson

Two small fires within five days at the Greenhaven sheltered properties in Budleigh Salterton are being investigated as arson by police.

Investigation launched into fire at Exmouth Pavilions

A fire overnight at the East Devon District Council-owned Exmouth Pavilions is being investigated today.

The fire is believed to have started in an external storage bin at just after 2am.

RSPCA ensures every fire engine has animal oxygen masks

Every one of the 121 fire engines in Devon and Somerset will soon be equipped with animal oxygen masks – thanks to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).

For a number of years, the Service has worked with the charity Smokey Paws to enable local groups and organisations to generously provide the masks to their local fire stations.
