University Of Plymouth Choral Society and Sinfonia Christmas Concert

Enjoy uplifting music including the Christmas story featured in Part 1 of Handel’s celebrated oratorio, Messiahi, that overflows with stirring choruses and evocative solo arias depicting the coming of the Christ Child gloriously announced by angels.

The concert will also include traditional carols. This is what Christmas is all about – a festival of singing and rejoicing!

Plymouth University Orchestra Christmas Concert

Plymouth University Orchestra will perform a selection of orchestra works prepared during the term with additional pieces for strings, wind and brass ensembles.

The Orchestra comprises of students, staff and community members and performs three concerts during the academic year.

Plymouth University Gamelan Orchestra and Friends Summer Performance

The 20 instruments that originate from Indonesia are made of bronze and are built and tuned to be played together as an orchestra.

They produce a unique rhythmical vibrating sound, allowing a variety of music to be played, ranging from louder, flamboyant and dramatic pieces to quieter, contemplative arrangements. Plymouth University students and staff developed their music skills during their visit to Bali.

“Arguably Haydn’s greatest single composition”, as declared by his chief biographer, H.C. Robbins Landon, Haydn composed this highly dramatic and exciting work in 1798. Titled Missa in Angustiis (Mass for troubled times), it was later nicknamed Nelson Mass following a performance attended by Admiral Nelson in 1800.

Fine Young Cannibals announced for Sounds of the Summer festival

Chart-topping eighties band Fine Young Cannibals will complete the star-studded line-up of acts performing at this year’s Sounds of the Summer festival at Newton Abbot Racecourse.
