Action plan to tackle Child Poverty in Plymouth

A new three-year action plan has been agreed by Plymouth City Council to tackle child poverty in the city.

The Plan for Child Poverty 2016 – 2019 will look at four priorities and will build on the work done since 2012 to tackle child poverty in the city.

Cost of 11,000 children in poverty in Plymouth estimated at £120m

The Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) has published estimates of the costs generated by child poverty rates in every local authority and constituency in the UK.

The CPAG estimates the cost of child poverty in Plymouth to be £120 million per year with 11,085 children in the city falling below the relative poverty line.

Council unveils plan to help tackle child poverty

Making home energy bills cheaper and increasing wages to the cost of living are just two of the ways Plymouth will tackle child poverty in a hard-hitting city-wide action plan.
