Feeding ducks bread is bad for their health

Every year 6 million loaves of bread are being thrown into canals and rivers in England and Wales - potentially polluting the water and damaging hundreds of thousands of ducks’ homes.

Last year 73% of people in the South West fed the ducks, 82% of them admitting to feeding our feathered friends with bread.

Bread Cookery Demo

In true River Cottage style, the bread making demo focuses on sour dough and soda bread. The session will begin by looking at how you make a sour dough starter.

The process for making the dough will be explained before tasting the freshly baked loaf itself. Learn how to make quick and delicious soda bread and how to form different shaped loaves.

The group session finishes with sharing dips and freshly made flat breads.

You will leave with a recipe for soda bread to try at home.

Veteran comedy actor Frank Thornton dies at 92

It has been announced that Frank Thornton, the much-loved comedy star of Are You Being Served? and Last Of The Summer Wine died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday at the age of 92.

Thornton will be most fondly remembered for playing Captain Peacock in Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft's 1970s and 80s BBC sitcom, Are You Being Served?
