Inquests open into deaths of teenagers in Honiton house fire

The inquests into the deaths of the two teenagers who died following a house fire in Honiton were opened yesterday in Exeter.

Coroner Dr Elizabeth Earland said that the identities of Andrew Gunn, 18 and 17-year-old Rosie Bennillick, identified at the hearing as Child A, had been confirmed by their mothers. The teenagers died at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

The coroner confirmed that post-mortem examinations had been carried out but no details of the findings were disclosed yesterday.

3-year-old Harvey Bennellick who was taken to Bristol's Frenchay Hospital following the fire in the house in Lee Close in Honiton last Friday also died.

Eight people were in the house when the fire broke out.

Devon and Cornwall Police report that the fire began in a first-floor bedroom and was not being treated as suspicious.

The inquest was adjourned.
