Two drivers injured in Yelverton collision

Police are investigating a serious collision on the A386 near Yelverton in which two male drivers were injured.

Officers were called shortly before 2.40pm on Tuesday 2 June after reports of a two-vehicle collision halfway between the Yelverton roundabout and the junction for The Rock.

The fire service attended as one of the drivers was reported to be trapped.

Both male drivers were taken to Derriford Hospital, one by land ambulance and the other by air ambulance.

The 62-year-old male driver of the white Hyundai i10, from the Yelverton area, suffered serious leg injuries. He remains in hospital in a serious condition.

The 77-year-old male driver of the silver Kia Carens, from Plymouth, suffered minor injuries and was later released from hospital.

Officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit are carrying out an investigation into the cause of the collision.

The road was closed until around 11pm to enable the specialist investigation of the scene to take place and debris to be cleared from the road.

Highways assisted with the road closure and traffic was diverted.
