A mother and daughter paid a special visit to staff on Birch Ward yesterday to say ‘thank you’ to the staff for the care of their late husband and father.

Sarah Hargreave’s late husband, Len, was diagnosed with diabetes last year and following further tests, he was found to have an aggressive form of leukaemia, known as acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

After spending a lot of time on Birch Ward, Len sadly passed away in March 2015, exactly 11 months after first being diagnosed.

Sarah and daughter Lauren visited staff on the ward on Thursday 9 April with a cheque for £400.00.

Sarah said: “The money raised was from donations at Len’s funeral and at the wake. We wanted to give something back, after everything that the staff have done and for caring for Len so well.

“Len had to spend a lot of time on Birch Ward and came to the ward up to three times a week. The support that we received as a family was always fantastic, all of the staff were extremely kind and we are grateful for everything that they have done for us.”

Claire Patterson, Junior Sister on Birch Ward said: “Len was a lovely patient. He was always a joy to look after and we were all extremely saddened for Sarah’s loss.

“It was lovely to see Sarah and Lauren today and would like to thank them for their extremely generous donation.”
