A Plymouth College staff member is preparing to swim across the English Channel next month.

Jazmin Buxton, 24, is attempting the crossing in aid of the Children’s Hospice South West which provides palliative care to children.

Buxton who completed a six hour sea swim earlier this month has been training for nearly a year to raise money for the local charity.

Buxton said: "By sponsoring me and my swim we can help ensure these children and their families in the South West have access to the care they need and the support of a safe and happy haven so they can have the stability, comfort and a home from home during their difficult journey.

"The inspirational bravery of the children, and families that surround them in the hospice, most definitely helped put those tough days of training into perspective.

The crossing which is a gruelling 21 miles between Dover and Calais will see Buxton swimming through cold water for several hours.
