Plymouth shows its support for the Paris terror victims

Plymouth is showing its support to the people of Paris after Friday night’s terrorist attacks.

The French Tricolore flag is being displayed on the Big Screen and this evening Smeaton’s Tower will be lit red, white and blue, joining with other cities across the world who have done the same with their own landmarks since Friday night’s atrocities.

A book of condolence has been opened today for people to add messages of sympathy. Members of the public are invited to sign the book at Plymouth’s First Stop shop in New George Street.

Plymouth City Council Leader Tudor Evans said: “All our thoughts and prayers are with those who lost loved ones and those affected by this tragedy. Plymouth is in mourning with you all. We are proud to live in a multicultural and multi-faith society, and we stand for the unity of all communities.”

All Council buildings will also be taking part in a Europe-wide one minute’s silence at a 11am today (Monday) in respect of the victims of the Paris terror attacks.

The First stop opening hours are:

Monday 8.30am to 5pm
Tuesday and Wednesday 8.30am to 7pm
Thursday 8.30am to 8pm
Friday 8.30am to 5pm
Saturday 9am to 5pm.
