Award winning property developer Burrington Estates New Homes has announced the name of a new nature trail in Manadon Park following a competition with local school children. Pupils at Manadon Vale Primary School were invited to name a woodland walk surrounding the developer’s largest development in the city, The Quarters.

The Heart of Oak Nature Trail was officially opened last week at a ribbon cutting ceremony. Burrington Estates New Homes met with Sarah Ryder, Head Teacher at Manadon Vale Primary School, and three local school children who took part in the competition. Seven year old Olivia Green was awarded first prize for her name ‘Heart of Oak’, winning a £50 Waterstones voucher. Two runners up, Mckenzie Hyatt who submitted the name ‘Maritime Walk’ and Isaac Briggs who put forward ‘Mayflower Walk’, received a £20 and £10 Waterstones voucher respectively.

A walkway with newly planted trees, flowers and a level pathway has been created surrounding the new homes at The Quarters and is open for both residents and community use. The nature trail forms part of Burrington Estates New Homes plans to provide more community spaces and improve local wildlife, with the development also home to The Burrington Butterfly Garden.

Olivia went on to cut the ribbon on site to reveal an engraved plaque with her family from school present, as well as some of the Burrington Estates New Homes team. The children then visited the Burrington Butterfly Garden, which has been created to encourage butterflies to the local area.

Colin Palmer, Managing Director at Burrington Estates New Homes, said: “It’s important to Burrington Estates to be able to enhance nature and wildlife wherever possible at our sites and support the local community. The Quarters held a unique opportunity for us to work collaboratively with the local community to create this walkway, which will allow families in the area to enjoy it for years to come. It was a pleasure working with Manadon Vale Primary School again and we were delighted to welcome them on site to open this special walkway.”

Sarah Ryder, Head Teacher at Manadon Vale, said: “It was wonderful for the pupils to take part in such a community-focused project and produce something that will be a tangible part of Manadon’s history. Everyone enjoyed the chance to be creative throughout the naming process and really got stuck in.
Olivia was thrilled that her name was chosen to represent the nature walk, and we really enjoyed heading down to site for the ribbon cutting ceremony, which was a real stand out moment for her that I’m sure she’ll remember for some time.”

Burrington Estates New Homes will ensure the walkway remains a key part of the community for many years to come and will continue with the maintenance following the completion of the build programme.

The Quarters is now 62% sold, with two and three bedroom high specification new homes still available to reserve, perfect for new homeowners or growing families. The homes come complete with a range of premium fittings and fixtures such as luxury fitted carpets, British-designed kitchens and fully integrated appliances. Prices available from £250,000*. A number of schemes, including Help to Buy, are available to make moving home even easier.
