Police are appealing for witnesses after a lit firework was placed through the letter box of a property in Plymouth.

The incident happened at a second floor flat in Westeria Terrace, Beacon Park, between around 11.30pm and midnight on Friday 11 December 20015.

Although no-one was in the property at the time of the arson attack, the firework caused damage to the carpet and wooden door and had potential to cause danger to other people in the flats.

Detective Sergeant Giles Bedson, based at Devonport police station, said: “Thanks to swift actions by neighbours the risk was minimised and the object was extinguished by a crew from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service

“We are keen to speak to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area at the time.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Devonport CID via 101, or email 101@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk, quoting reference CR/085353/15.
