The Box, Plymouth’s new museum and gallery opening in spring 2020, has appointed well-respected Bristol-based catering company Fosters to lead its food and beverage offer.

Fosters will operate The Box Kitchen & Bar, with a high-quality offer that includes locally inspired menus, a great breakfast selection, afternoon teas, Sunday roasts, children’s food and a destination evening offer.

It will also operate The Little Box, a pop-up on Tavistock Place outside the venue, serving drinks, freshly baked pastries and seasonal snacks alongside a regular street food market that involves and celebrates local traders.

Established in 1953, Fosters began life as a wine merchant before moving into event and corporate catering. In recent years, it has secured prestigious contracts with the Bristol Old Vic (following its multi-million-pound redevelopment), SS Great Britain, Bath Rugby and Cheltenham Town Hall.

Since 2014 it has also provided catering for the thousands of people who attend the University of Plymouth’s graduation ceremonies.

Councillor Tudor Evans, Leader for Plymouth City Council said: “Following a really competitive application process we’re thrilled to be working with Fosters. We were very impressed with their experience, commitment to sustainability and sourcing regional produce as well as the way they want to work with us to maximise the potential of our indoor and outdoor spaces. Their ideas and approach will enhance the overall visitor experience at The Box and put it on the map as a dining and social destination in its own right.”

Neil Lodge, Chief Executive at Fosters said: “We are thrilled and honoured to have been chosen to be the catering partner at The Box and cannot wait to start welcoming and looking after the many visitors who will undoubtedly visit this stunning new flagship venue, representing the very best that is Plymouth. The South West has a wonderful reputation for great food and suppliers and we look forward to showcasing these in The Box Kitchen & Bar and through the many catered events which will take place at The Box”.

Alongside this exciting announcement, The Box has also launched its corporate venue hire offer.

From mid-2020, a range of spaces will be available to hire for businesses and groups seeking to be among the first to hold their events in its historic and restored spaces.

From large gala dinners to small-scale meetings and presentations, all packages include access to The Box’s exhibitions and galleries, free Wi-Fi and support from its experienced events team.

Prices start from just £45 per hour. To find out more email venuehire@plymouth.gov.uk or visit www.theboxplymouth.com
