On Saturday 25 March, the Endoscopy Unit at Derriford Hospital will be opening its doors to registered nurses, health care assistants, porters and admin staff that may be interested in finding out more about career opportunities.

The open day will welcome those interested between 10am-1pm, with the chance to walk around the unit, witness a scope using a teaching dummy, the chance to speak to current members of the staff, including the lead Consultant Gastroenterologist, Dr Cochrane, who will be happy to update visitors on current practice, and much more.

Mel Gandy, Endoscopy Unit Manager, said: “We are a supportive, friendly and welcoming team, with a workforce of over 60 members of staff. We care for our colleagues and have a strong management structure, which works because of an open door policy to all staff at all times.

“We promote and encourage career progression and development and we are very proud to be one of the first areas in the Trust to employ assistant health care practitioners (a new band 4 progression pathway for health care assistants).”

Our Endoscopy Unit offers specialised treatments for the South West and treats around 16,000 patients every year in the recently refurbished unit.

“We are an exceptionally busy unit and are looking to increase our current workforce of 61 employees, in order to meet the demands and needs for this expanding service. We are looking for enthusiastic members who can bring experience and initiative whilst promoting excellent patient care.”

If you would like to attend the open day, please come along to the Endoscopy Unit on level 7 at Derriford Hospital on 25 March.
