The iPlymouth Photography Group on Flickr has united with the South West Mesothelioma Support Group to produce a 2019 calendar which is raising funds for the British Lung Foundation's Mesothelioma Research Scheme.

A full preview can be found here.

The calendar was produced for free by Plymouth University Cartographer Jamie Quinn, in his spare time, and features the work of 41 local amateur photographers, who kindly donated their stunning landscape images of Devon and Cornwall.

Calendars can be for purchased for £6 from the following places. Every penny will be going to charity.

The London Camera Exchange in Plymouth City Centre
The Brook Inn in Plympton St Maurice
The Country Man's Farmshop near Endsleigh Garden Centre, Ivybridge
The Community Market, Fore Street, Saltash
Pam's Snacks, Lockyers Key, Plymouth

Calendars can also be posted nationally or internationally. Please email james.quinn@plymouth.ac.uk or call 01752 585537 to arrange this and payment.

Mesothelioma is a terminal cancer which most commonly affects the lining of the lungs and is caused by the inhalation of disturbed asbestos fibres. Asbestos is often called the ‘hidden killer’ as the dust can be too small to see and yet has the potential to kill. Historically Plymouth and the South West are hot spots for mesothelioma, with many cases emerging among former Devonport Dockyard workers and labourers.

Local companies have generously sponsored the calendar which means that every penny raised will go to charity. Specialist asbestos solicitors Wolferstans sponsored all printing costs, whilst Redrok undertook the printing and produced 250 of the calendars free of charge.

Jacqui Day donated envelopes in memory of her Dad Dave Martin who sadly passed away from Mesothelioma in 2008.

The South West Mesothelioma Support group was established in 2011. It now holds monthly meetings in Plymouth City Centre for those bereaved by mesothelioma or other asbestos related conditions.

Their friendly and informal gatherings are a chance to meet others in the same situation. Members of the group also fund raise and spread awareness for related registered charities.

New members are welcome. Anyone requiring information about the group can contact us on 01752 225554 or 01752 881759. The South West Mesothelioma Support Group and details of their forthcoming events can also be found on Facebook @SouthWestMesotheliomaSupportGroup or Twitter @SWMesoSupport.

The iPlymouth Group on Flickr is open to anybody with an interest in Plymouth and its surroundings. It is a place to upload photos, share them with the group and have discussions about anything and everything. There are monthly breakfast meetings held in the Brook Inn in Plympton and online photo competitions held every month. Anyone interested can register at Flickr.com and search for iPlymouth to find the group.
