Leading retail art gallery, Castle Fine Art, is inviting children to channel their inner Jackson Pollock by taking part in its Young Fine Artist in Residence competition. Adapting to the ‘new normal’, Castle Fine Art has hosted the competition online for the very first time, gathering entries so far from children across the country.

Since launching in 2017, Castle Fine Art’s Young Fine Artist competition has encouraged creativity amongst communities and schools at its galleries across the UK. This year, the competition has asked young people to get creative at home and is hoping its competition will be a source of much-needed entertainment and motivation during the lockdown, as well as a chance to recognise and reward talented children everywhere.

Focusing on children of all ages and abilities, the competition tasks budding artists with browsing the gallery’s resident pieces online, before choosing one to recreate. The children are encouraged to experiment with their version and use any medium of their choice. All submissions will be judged by the Castle Fine Art team, before a first, second and third place are carefully selected and awarded Cass Art vouchers. These can then be uses to purchase a range of wonderful art material to use for their future creations.

Ian Weatherby-Blythe, Group Managing Director at Castle Fine Art, said:

“We are so pleased to be continuing with the Young Fine Artists competition this year. Taking part couldn’t be easier; children are invited to submit their artwork via email, complete with a few words of why they chose to recreate their selected piece. We love to see our artists’ work inspire young children, and it’s important we help to encourage creativity in all ages, especially in trying times like now.”

The competition is a firm favourite, and has toured galleries across the UK since its launch. The most recent contests took place in the Castle Fine Art galleries in Stamford, York and Cambridge, and saw several recreational masterpieces from world-famous artists including Robert Oxley. This year’s submissions have already started flooding in, beginning with nine-year-old Archie Orford, who entered his drawing adaption of Tim Rogerson’s Deadpool

Speaking of his piece, Archie said: “I chose Tim Rogerson because I like the poses that the Marvel characters he draws are in. Deadpool is my favourite Marvel character.”

Submissions for the competition, which must be sent by Tuesday 30th June, can be made through the Castle Fine Art website or by sending an email to marketingdepartment@washingtongreen.co.uk
