Devon Scouts Run to the Fun

Scouts from around the area were amongst one thousand other Scouts taking part in “Run to the Fun” at Mount Edgcumbe last week.

The Jamboree was held on the site that held one of the first camps run by Scouting in the South West. The Scouts were following in the steps of their founder, Baden Powell. Scouts from other countries such as Australia, Finland and Iceland gave this camp an international flavour.

The Jamboree contained various “Go Zones” where young people were able to try activities or even learn a new skills such as Trapeze, Circus Skills, Axe Throwing and Segway. ‘Go Monopoly’ was a popular part of the Jamboree, this Go Zone gave the young people the chance to explore Plymouth and visit parts of the city that they wouldn’t normally visit. Stops during Go Monopoly included the Citadel, where the young people had the rare opportunity of exploring the Battlements.

Sam a Scout from Plymstock said “The view from the top of the Trapeze will be something to remember, I could see for miles”.

Trevor Munro, Media Manager from Devon Scouts said “The young people enjoyed a fun and adventure filled week, the weather did let us down on the first day but that didn’t stop the young people from having fun”.

Run to the Fun teamed up with Scout Radio to provide a live radio station for the week, JAM FM. Young people were able to try out their presenting skills on the “Takeover Show”. Trevor added “Teaming up with Scout Radio for the week provided young people with the opportunity to improve their communication skills, the Scouts could be the DJ’s of the future. “
