Are you aged 14 – 19 and thinking about your career, or a parent, carer or teacher of someone in that age group? Why not come to Skills South West 2018, a free major two day regional event returning to Plymouth next month, to help you decide.

Skills South West is run by Prospects Events and sponsored by Plymouth City Council, the National Careers Service, and UTC Plymouth.

It is an interactive and inspiring careers, jobs, skills and apprenticeship event. It takes place at Plymouth Pavilions on 14 and 15 March and will give young people direct contact with employers, training providers and Further Education and Higher Education providers.

Councillor Ian Bowyer, Leader of Plymouth City Council, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Skills South West back to Plymouth following the success of previous events, and this year’s show looks set to be the biggest and best yet.

“If you haven’t signed up already then I would urge young people, parents, carers and teachers to attend this fantastic event. There are also a few spaces left for exhibitors so please do get in touch with the organisers as well if you are a local employer or training provider.”

The event will connect talented young people with new opportunities across the region, including:

  • a wide range of employers offering apprenticeships in key industry sectors,
  • universities and colleges on hand to discuss higher education
  • training providers and career guidance organisations
  • demonstrations and hands-on activities to give visitors a sample of the opportunities on offer

Councillor Terri Beer, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Families for Plymouth City Council, said: “This really is a great opportunity to find out about different career options and speak to local employers so make sure you don’t miss out.”

Martin Collard, project manager for Skills South West said: “We’re delighted to be bringing Skills South West back to Plymouth. Now in its 6th year we are once again looking forward to welcoming over 3,000 visitors that are expected to stream through the doors over the two days.”

With an evening opening between 4pm and 6:30pm on the first day specifically designed to welcome family groups, parents, individuals and groups of friends, Skills South West is an ideal opportunity for key influencers to discuss a young person’s future and help them take the right steps to achieve their full potential.
