Webb Ellis Cup coming to Devon

In the build up to Rugby World Cup 2015 coming to Exeter, one of the 11 Host Cities, the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour will head to the city, showcasing Exeter and Devon to a world audience.

Since May 2014, Rugby’s most coveted prize has been capturing the imagination of thousands of people across the world as part of the build up to Rugby World Cup 2015 and now the world famous Trophy has touched down in the UK following its’ global tour.

The Trophy is named after William Webb Ellis, credited as the inventor of Rugby Football, and is the prestigious prize for the sport. Following years in the planning, the Trophy Tour is part of the 100 day countdown to Rugby World Cup 2015 and has already visited Scotland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Wales.

The Webb Ellis Cup will be visiting various locations around the county of Devon, starting in Plymouth on July 8 and finishing in Exeter on July 11, before continuing its journey around the country, finally arriving at Twickenham Stadium on September 18 ahead of the Opening Ceremony.

The Trophy Tour will engage with fans and give them the opportunity to build unforgettable memories as part of their own Rugby World Cup 2015 story. With Exeter as one of the Host Cities, the Heart of Devon Tourism Partnership is provided with a rare opportunity to be involved in a World Class sporting event, perfect for families.
