Dive into the Easter at the National Marine Aquarium

The National Marine Aquarium (NMA) in Plymouth will be the only aquarium in the UK to allow its visitors to talk to the divers in its tanks, as part of a brand new interactive Dive Show during the Easter holidays. The new technology will see the divers communicate with each other, as well as the audience for a fully interactive experience.

Throughout the Easter holidays (6-23 April), the NMA is inviting visitors to jump feet first into the underwater world, encouraging people to interact with the aquarium in a way they have never been able to before. Not only is diver communications a first for the NMA, but it is the only aquarium in the UK interacting with its visitors in this way.

As well as being able to talk to the divers as they glide around the NMA’s tanks, visitors will also be able to go on their own journey swimming around the exhibits using virtual reality headsets to see the marine life up close. For those not wanting to go on a virtual journey, there will be a Scuba diving trail around the NMA to learn about how to dive underwater, while piecing together divers’ kit and finding out how to breathe under water.

Helen Gowans, Public Engagement Coordinator at the National Marine Aquarium said: “We’re excited to once again be putting on a broad range of Easter activities for all the family at the NMA.

“It is great to be the only aquarium in the UK to enable our visitors to communicate with our divers. We can’t wait for visitors to experience that and come and talk to our Scuba divers in a way they can’t in any other aquarium in the UK. We hope that this will add to their NMA experience and help them to connect with the Ocean in a brand new way.”

As well as the exciting day time activities the ever popular ‘Sleeping with the Sharks’ event will be back on Saturday 13 April. Families can find out what the animals get up to when the NMA closes its doors, and also learn about the Ocean and how they can help keep it safe and clean.

The NMA’s ‘Ocean Squad’ for teens will also be running this Easter from Monday 8 to Friday 12 April. 11-15 year-olds can take part in a week of Ocean themed activities including snorkelling in the sea, a boat trip, cooking sustainable seafood and learning how to make their own Ocean conservation films. There are places still available for anyone who would like to join in.

If all that is not enough, there will be a new jellyfish exhibition for visitors to come and see them in their new home.
