Ex-head of art and acclaimed artist returns to support the Torbay Art Show 

The Torbay Art Show are delighted to welcome George Davis back to Torquay Boy’s Grammar School to exhibit his bright contemporary works of art over the weekend of Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd March 2020.

A familiar name to many, George Davis worked in the school Art Department for 27 years, culminating as Head of Art.  During his time at the helm, he oversaw the development and refurbishment of the Manor, which now houses the Art Department.  This facility, headed up by superb staff, offers the most incredible venue for the school’s art students.  

Delighted to be supporting a TBGS fundraiser, George commented, “This show not only provides a valuable showcase for artists but also adds to the profile of art in the Bay.  The Arts enrich and celebrate cultural and social identity and are essential for the development of understanding and empathy; enabling us to see the world through the gaze of others.”
Having left school at 15 without any qualifications, George Davis followed his creative passion and enrolled at Lancashire College of Art and his artistic story began.  George has continued to build on his artistic creativity and knowledge and gained his Master’s Degree in Art Education in 2001.  Since retiring George has concentrated on his painting, sharing his time between the UK and France where he creates contemporary works of art with a media ranging from watercolour gouache, acrylic, mixed media and assemblage.  

The Torbay Art Show has been organised by the Parents’ Association of Torquay Boys’ Grammar School, and all proceeds will go towards the refurbishment of the Sixth Form centre. The investment will see the Sixth Form take on a brighter, more spacious appearance with computer and study rooms for unsupervised learning and new café area for students to join together in an open and friendly environment.
