British Heart Foundation (BHF) shops are delighted to announce that 85 bags were donated to their Bag It. Beat It. event held at Drake Circus Shopping Centre.  The donated items will now go on to be sold in local BHF shops and could generate up to £1,500 to help fund life-saving research.

BHF shop’s Bag it. Beat it. campaign urged the public to donate bags of unwanted items. Every bag donated helps fund life-saving heart research, helping over 40,000 little heroes continue to fight congenital heart disease.

Before the BHF was founded, only one in five babies born with congenital heart disease saw their first birthday, let alone their first day of school. Thanks to pioneering research, now around 4,000 children experience their first day at school every year.

Greg Lumley, Centre Director at Drake Circus Shopping Centre, commented:

“It’s great to see such an amazing number of bags collected from our event. The BHF currently funds over £14 million into congenital heart disease research but this year they need to raise even more.

“The Plymouth community has done fantastically well and on behalf of everyone at Drake Circus I would like to say a big thank you to those who helped reach this amazing total.

“There’s still time to join Bag It. Beat It. If you weren’t able to take part in our event you can fill a bag with good quality unwanted clothes, shoes, toys, books, CDs, DVDs and homewares and donate the items to your local BHF shop. Join us and help the BHF in the fight against heart disease.”
