The Broadway in Plymstock excited over 14,000 visitors with a family fun day on Saturday 19th August in aid of The Stroke Association.

The fun day was held to raise money for The Stroke Association, prompted by the Centre Manager’s loss of both parents after suffering strokes in recent years.

Sponsored by Radio Plymouth, MSB Property Services and Concert Sound, the fun day actively encouraged local families to get involved with a range of activities to raise money for the worthy cause.

Children enjoyed bouncy castles and face painting, while older visitors had the chance to visit food stalls, listen to the Laira Brass Band and vocalists such as Kerry Gray and David Whitfield or watch performances by Plymstock’s Performing Arts Academy.

While raising money for the UK’s leading charity dedicated to conquering strokes, The Broadway’s Hays Travel store raised £150 for Jeremiah’s Journey who support children when they have experienced or are anticipating the death of someone special. The event saw staff members attempting to cycle around the world on static bikes

Mark Berry, Centre Manager, commented: “The Stroke Association is a cause that is incredibly close to my heart, as it provided care and support to my family during a very difficult time.

We loved seeing shoppers getting involved and helping to raise a total of  £300 for the charity so that they can continue to provide their vital services to other families in the area.”

In addition to this, The Broadway also managed to raise £150 for Saltram Rotary Club and £50 for Age UK Plymouth.

Mark Berry added, “We would like to thank the local community who attended for their incredible support on the day. We would not be able to raise vital funds without you.”

Jen Robinson Slater, Community and Events Fundraiser at The Stroke Association added, “We were overjoyed to be a part of The Broadway’s Family Fun Day and to raise awareness with our free blood pressure checks.

Fundraising and events have an enormous impact on what we are able to achieve and help us to prevent thousands of strokes by making people aware of the link between high blood pressure and stroke."
