If your home is feeling a little cramped, you might think that the solution is to move to a bigger property; but don’t be too hasty. For most homeowners, the solution to creating more space in your home doesn’t have to include moving to a new house, but instead, being more creative with the space you do have. With some simple tinkering and ingenuity, you may be surprised when you discover the extra space you do have.

Here are a few tips for maximising the space in your home.

Rearrange the furniture

This one may sound obvious, but it is easy to overlook. Sometimes, something as simple as rearranging your furniture can open up a room, creating more space and making it easier to access. If you have bulky furniture that gets in the way, it might be worth replacing, as this can take up more space than it needs. This is why many homeowners now prefer an open plan living space in their homes; by knocking down the walls and having the living room, kitchen and dining area as one connected living space, your home can suddenly appear larger. It is also handy for increasing the amount of natural light in your home and makes it easier to move about without constantly bumping into things!

Loft Conversion

If you’ve been thinking about how you can add another room to your home – perhaps as a guest room or an office space – then you might want to consider a loft conversion. Having a dormer loft conversion built by can increase the space in your home, and also provides you with a space that is aesthetically pleasing and full of potential. You can even move in there yourself if you want! Having an extra room can do wonders for your home, so this is definitely worth thinking about and making use of all that unused space.

Hidden Storage

Everyone is guilty of collecting clutter, and before you know it, it has piled up and taken over most of the space in your home. Fortunately, you don’t have to go to a car boot sale; with handy hidden storage designs, you can hide your clutter while keeping your home spacious. One of the most popular hidden storage ideas is the hidden compartment under the stairs, which keeps your items out of the way but also easy to find if you do need them. Another handy storage idea is having a coffee table that doubles as a bookcase.

Utilise Mirrors

Mirrors will help to make your living space look bigger by reflecting light and bouncing it off the room. Place a large mirror by the windows to get the best out of natural light and make your room feel more open. The mirror’s reflection also gives an impression of depth, and therefore, draws the eye. Your mirror can also act as your statement piece, so opt for one that you find aesthetically pleasing. Oversized mirrors are a great choice for most decors, and it can fit seamlessly into any room. Or, if you’d prefer, you can always opt for several mirrors, and make these your artistic aesthetic.
