Who needs the Bahamas at Easter?

That’s according to rental giant www.Holidaylettings.co.uk, after new data revealed that 13 English towns have seen a significant year-on-year increase in bookings for Easter Weekend.

Jack Johnson, spokesperson of the UK’s leading holiday rentals website, said that he wouldn’t be surprised if the figures caused a stir in the places mentioned in the report.

“Traditionally, Easter weekend represented the first chance in the New Year to top up your vitamin D levels. But this data is telling us that a growing number of people are choosing a staycation in the UK.”

Recent trends suggest that around a third of UK holidaymakers now stay within the British Isles for their main holiday, and the spike in interest supports the theory that more and more Brits are choosing to explore the UK over exotic holidays.

And talking of the English spots that have made the list, Jack was keen to point out that there’s good reason why these destination are set to pull in the Easter crowds this year.

“Did you know that Birmingham has more canals than Venice? Or that a French Emperor is buried in the centre of Farnborough? You don’t need to go aboard to get your cultural fix when you have hidden gems like this on your doorstep!”

“If you’re a homeowner in any of these areas, you could potentially capitalise on this trend by renting out your homes to others while you’re away yourself”. Jack explained.

The following are the top 10 English destinations which have seen a year-on-year rise in interest for the Easter weekend:

1.    Birmingham, West Midlands - 137%

2.    Farnborough, Hampshire - 85%
