Falmouth Oyster Festival turns up the volume

If you enjoy fresh Cornish seafood and an eclectic mix of music and first-class entertainment then you’ll not want to miss Falmouth Oyster Festival 2017, which takes place from 12-15 October.

This years music provides entertainment for all tastes with a great soundtrack of cool retro tones, gospel, soul, folk, jazz, motown, rock, pop and some proper Cornish singing to round off the event.

On Thursday, The Tinners return to play their mix of Irish, Scottish and English Folk music on fiddles, banjo, whistle, guitar and keyboard.  In the afternoon Russell Sinclair, a singer, guitarist and songwriter from Plymouth, best known for his energetic live guitar performances is the perfect accompaniment to a freshly shucked oyster, washed down with a pint of local ale.  On Thursday night, Falmouth Oyster Festival presents an evening with the award winning gospel singer Ley Adewole and the cool retro tones of The Grace Notes followed by Cornwall’s greatest comedy export, Johnny Cowling. The evening is in aid of Children’s Hospice South West, tickets £5.00.

On Friday, Cornwall’s premier acoustic duo The Right Brothers and Will Keating, local singer and guitarist playing traditional Cornish and Celtic folk songs will support the relaxed atmosphere.  Friday evening, wielding knives, whisks and saucepans, the culinary battle returns with Arty Williams and Nick Hodges competing for this year’s Hot Chef Challenge champion title.  To round off the evening, Motown Pirates with their soulful voices and funky motown/northern soul sounds will have everyone dancing the night away to their 70s disco and 80s dance beats. The evening is in aid of Shelterbox, tickets £5.00.

On Saturday, ‘jazzing up’ lunchtime, old time favourites the Black Rock Jazz Band return.  Alex Hart singer and songwriter with a folkey rootsy sound to West Country music will be sure to get your foot stomping in the afternoon.  Saturday night kicks off with BandEkoot performing rock and pop covers followed by I Love Amp who are no ordinary party band. Playing an eclectic mix of pop, rock and funk songs in their own distinctive style, they'll have you bouncing off the walls from the first song! Hailing from real musical pedigree, all 4 members are at the top of their game. Not to be missed. The evening is in aid of Fishermen’s Mission, tickets £5.00.

On Sunday, sit back and relax to the soulful voice of Cornish singer and songwriter Suzie Mac, whilst she plays a mixture of her own compositions and classic covers and in the afternoon the festival comes to a close with traditional folk/harmony from Falmouth’s best-loved Cornish male voices, The Oggymen.

Entry to Falmouth Oyster Festival is free with the exception of Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.  Tickets are £5.00 each and can be purchased online via See Tickets www.seetickets.com, will be available from 25th September from the National Maritime Museum Cornwall and Fal River Visitor Information Centre and on the door during the festival.
