As the nation grumbles back to work after a season of office parties, over-indulgence and family get togethers, many of us are looking to make some lighter choices to assist these healthy new year resolutions.

The brand new Good Taste Range of bakes at Warrens Bakery arrives to offer an appetising change from the usual slimmed down ranges. An easy and filling hot lunch break option, the range is calorie-counting friendly, with all of the award-winning credentials of their famous bakes.

In stores this January, the team at Cornwall’s oldest bakery worked on months of development at their St. Just bakery before giving the range their expert seal of approval. Focusing on lower calorie options while still boasting great taste at great value, all bakes are under 400 calories with a new meal deal for under 500 calories.

The Good Taste Range includes its signature item, the brand-new Pie Thin, which is a completely innovative launch unlike any other. Using traditional pastry that uses special methods of rolling to reduce the calories and create a lighter bite, you still have the same size and filling but with less of the calories, the Pie Thin in fact rivals the calorie count of sandwiches within lower calorie ranges commonly seen in stores.

Set to warm up the winter blues, the Balti Spiced Chicken & Spinach Pie Thin (318 calories each) is finished with a rustic crumb and filled with a delicious chicken and spinach Balti.

Veggies are catered for, with the Spiced Veg Fusion Pie Thin at just 294 calories. Encased and sprinkled with caraway seeds, then hand- filled with a healthy selection of vegetables and beans in a mild Balti sauce, it makes for a filling and tasty yet guilt-free lunch-on-the-go.

A firm favourite and top-selling savoury bake, the humble sausage roll has been given a leaner new year makeover. Launching the protein-packed Gourmet Pork Sausage Roll providing a whopping 32.7g of protein for only 338 calories, and the Gourmet Apple & Cider Pork Sausage Roll with a significant 23g of protein for only 371 calories, these are a must-try!

Head Baker, Jason Jobling, who has been with the British craft bakery for over two decades commented ahead of the range launch – “After what is often a month of excess during the festive season, we are delighted to be able to launch our new Good Taste Range, offering all of the taste but less of the calories. Made to still feel indulgent, we have made it even easier to pick up a healthier lunch option with our hearty and warming bakes that can be enjoyed on the go throughout the day.”

Launching alongside the new bakes are the all-new Meringue Bites, which are being introduced alongside the existing popular range. The perfect bite-size treat, each meringue is under 55 calories and new flavours are –

• Raspberry & White Chocolate Bites (47 calories each)
• Chocolate Bites (55 calories each)
• Black Cherry & Dark Chocolate Bites (54 calories each)

As part of the new ‘Under 500 Cal Meal Deal’ customers will be able to choose from any of the Good Taste Range to create a low-calorie meal deal for just £4. Available at all Warrens Bakery stores, choose from one of the Pie Thins, Gourmet Sausage Rolls or a Selected Sandwich, plus a Meringue Bite and a bottle of water, meaning you can save change and calories this New Year.

Tipped as one of the UK’s top three British craft bakeries, the team will be launching a refreshed breakfast menu and a range of other products in early 2018, with more information soon to be released.

Renowned for their innovative and award-winning pasties, even more fans of traditional British bakes will be able to enjoy the firm favourites and innovative launches from the South West bakery this year, with 50 – 60 store openings around the UK in the pipeline.

The Good Taste Range and meal deal will be available at Warrens Bakery stores across the UK, with just under 60 bakeries across Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Bristol, Birmingham, Hampshire, Essex and London.
