A charitable initiative which sees local legal firms write wills for people in exchange for a donation has officially launched for 2017.

Will Aid Month, which takes place across the country from 01-30 November 2017, relies on generous solicitors up and down the UK to pledge their time and support for the cause which sees them provide the will writing service for local people for free in return for a donation which is then split between nine of the UK’s best- loved charities. This is the only scheme in the UK which does not have an age restriction.

Will Aid 2016 raised over 1.25 million for charity with over 9900 wills created, yet a poll undertaken by Will Aid this year shows that still 54% of people in the UK don’t have a will.

Peter de Vena Franks, Campaign Director for Will Aid said: “Will Aid 2016 was a fantastic success but we are really hoping 2017 will surpass that and for this year is going to be bigger and better than before.

“We are urging those who are interested in making a will to contact us via telephone or the website to find their nearest participating solicitor and make an appointment before they run out.

We’re also looking for more and more solicitors to sign up to Will Aid and donate their time, so we can help more and more people get their finances in order.

Having a will is one of the most important, yet easiest things to tick off the to-do list and our charities benefit as a result!”

Will Aid has been running since 1988 and has run every November since 2008. It is the most successful charity will-writing scheme in the UK, and is open to all adults with no minimal age.

Those who wish to book a will can make their November appointments via www.willaid.org.uk or by calling us on 0300 0309 558.

Last year Will Aid raised more than £1.25 million for its charity partners – ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children, Sightsavers, SCIAF (Scotland) and Trocaire (Northern Ireland).

The recommended donation for a basic Will Aid will is £95 for a single will and £150 for a pair of mirror wills.
