History gets horrible at the Central Library

There’s gruesome fun for all the family on Saturday 20 September as Plymouth’s Central Library hosts an afternoon of ‘Horrible Histories’ activities.

Staff in the children’s library will be transformed into Rotten Romans and Smashing Saxons and there may even be an appearance from Henry VIII so hold on to your heads!

The costumes are on loan from Mount Edgcumbe and from the Birmingham Stage Company’s hilarious production of ‘Barmy Britain’, which will be showing at Plymouth Pavilions from Tuesday 30 September until Sunday 5 October. Featuring historical characters from battling Boudicca to dastardly Dick Turpin, it’s the horrible history of Britain with all the nasty bits left in.

At 2pm there will be craft activities where you can make your very own Elizabethan ruff or ‘Terrible Tudors’ beard, followed by a Horrible Histories rhymetime and storytime featuring more favourite Terry Deary characters at 3.30pm.

There’ll also be quizzes to test your history knowledge on everyone from Vikings to Victoria.

Every child who visits the library during the session will be entered into a prize draw to win a family ticket to see the Barmy Britain show in Plymouth.

There’s no need to book, it’s free and anyone who isn’t yet a library member can join for free on the day.
