To give members of the public a taste of what’s to come when Cineworld Plymouth opens its doors on 22nd October at The Barcode, the UK’s leading cinema chain is inviting film and football fans of all ages to join Plymouth’s favourite football mascot, Pilgrim Pete, for a very special challenge.

On Saturday, 19th October, from 9am to 1pm, Plymouth Argyle Football Club’s very own Pilgrim Pete will be putting his skills to the test in Cineworld’s mechanical rodeo-style 4DX challenge. He’ll also be throwing down the gauntlet to see if Drake Circus shoppers have what it takes to beat him. Visitors will be able to meet Pilgrim Pete and see how long they are able to hold on to their popcorn while experiencing blockbuster-style thrills in Cineworld’s exclusive high-tech motion seat ahead of Cineworld Plymouth’s grand opening.

As well as the chance to beat Plymouth’s best-loved mascot at his own game, those taking part will also get the chance to win a number of prizes. But fans who aren’t able to join before lunch needn’t worry, the 4DX challenge will run until 6pm, so they’ll still get a chance to see if they have what it takes to top Pilgrim Pete’s efforts and put in a prize-winning performance.

Cineworld Plymouth will be bursting onto the scene and opening its doors on Tuesday 22nd October to members of the public, with tickets available from £3 for the first week of opening*, only. Located at The Barcode, Drake Circus, it will feature twelve state-of-the-art screens including 4DX, Cineworld’s most exhilarating way to watch a film, and an IMAX® theatre, the world’s most immersive cinema experience. The cinema will also offer a Baskin Robbins ice cream counter, rollover hot dogs, ICEE frozen drinks and a Starbucks for customers to enjoy. The cinema will open in time for the highly anticipated film Terminator: Dark Fate, which will be available in IMAX and 4DX.

Terry Whitehead, Cineworld Plymouth General Manager, comments: “We are so excited that we can give members of the public the chance to experience the thrills and spills of our 4DX chair with Pilgrim Pete before we open our doors to movie fans on Tuesday 22nd October. We can’t wait to welcome visitors with a variety of screening rooms and propositions, all bursting with amazing colour, including our new 4DX auditorium and IMAX screen. We look forward to sharing our love of film with the local community.”

Only available in Cineworld across the UK, 4DX offers customers the opportunity to experience the latest movies with high-tech motion seats, engineered to work in perfect synchronicity with the action on screen. Movie fans will be surrounded by special effects such as wind, fog, lightning, snow, bubbles, water and scents. The new 4DX auditorium will house 140 specially designed seats, plus a curved screen – the height of almost two double decker buses. 4DX at Cineworld Plymouth will be Cineworld’s 26th 4DX screen in the UK.

Cinema fans can take advantage of a range of offers at Cineworld Plymouth including weekly discounted Movies for Juniors screenings for just £2.50 on Saturdays, Sundays and school holidays, as well as the Cineworld family ticket and Student NUS discount.
