This Christmas, visitors to National Trust’s Saltram near Plympton can enjoy a change from the usual food and craft fair. Staff and volunteers are looking forward to offering something a little bit special compared to previous years.

The Saltram Christmas Festival, which takes place on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 November from 10am to 4pm, replaces the old fair in the stable block and park with a weekend of local festive food, handmade gifts, mulled wine, wintry walks and a visit from St Nicholas; all amid the setting of Salt ram's magnificent neo-classical house and garden. In addition, visitors will also see the past brought to life with ‘a servant’s Christmas’.

Fiona Macmillan, Visitor Experience Manager said: "We decided that it was time to try something a bit different for Christmas. As a charity we hope that, while kicking off the Christmas season, the Festival will also be a way for people to forge a more personal connection with Saltram and support our important conservation work at this special place."

So, this year, after visitors have shopped around the very best local arts and crafts laid out within the stables courtyard, they can wonder up to the house and experience just what Christmas life was like ‘below stairs’. Then, warming up with a glass of mulled wine and some roasted chestnuts, they can meander amongst the many food stalls right in front of the house and the beautiful landscaped garden. Children will be able to share their Christmas wishes with St Nicholas and enjoy completing the Christmas trail.

Fiona adds: "Over eighty stalls will showcase the very best in festive arts, crafts and local seasonal fare. It’s surely the tastiest start to the season and the most perfect place to find beautiful Christmas gifts away from the high street crowds."

Admission to the festival is free for National Trust members, Admission prices apply to non-members: Adult £5.00, Child £2.70 Family £10.00. Family (one adult) £7.70. Admission includes entry to the craft and food fair, the house, garden and Chapel Arts & Crafts outlet.
