Dr Feelgood headline Plymouth Beer Festival 2013 at Plymouth Pavilions

They are one of the best live rhythm and blues bands in the business. Dr Feelgood will headline the Plymouth Beer Festival 2013 at Plymouth Pavilions over the weekend of Friday 12 and Saturday 13 July 2013.

With a huge back catalogue going back to the 70s, Dr Feelgood have enjoyed global success with a string of hit singles including ‘Roxette’, ‘Back in the Night’, ‘Milk and Alcohol’, ‘Down at the Doctors’, ‘She Does it Right’, ‘Going Back Home’ and ‘See You Later Alligator’ - which gave the group their first gold record.

Dr Feelgood remains one of the most popular and exciting live rhythm and blues acts in the world and despite lacking a single original member, the Feelgood brand just keeps on evolving and getting better.

The current line-up features the rhythm section of Kevin Morris on drums and Phil Mitchell on bass, both 29 years in the band and Steve Walwyn on guitar who has been with the band for 23 years. Vocalist Robert Kane (formerly of the Animals) is the most recent addition, joining in 1999.

‘Stupidity’ was the album which gave the band their first UK No.1 and has paved the way for hit album after hit album, from the 70s to today. More recently May 2011 saw the digitally re-mastered re-release of ‘Chessmasters’ originally released in 2000, the band’s tribute to the Chess label, home to many of the finest blues artists of the 20th century and the first Dr Feelgood album to feature Robert on vocals.

You cannot mention Dr Feelgood without honouring one of the most respected guitarists to come out of the band, Wilko Johnson who has recently hit the headlines. He spent 6 years with the band between 1971 & 1977, shared the success on their No.1 live album ‘Stupidity’ before persuing other projects. Wilko is famous for his ‘guitar heroics’, ‘driving rifts’ and writing skills which lead to a list of 70s ‘new wave’ bands acknowledging the influence of  Wilko and the Feelgoods including The Clash, Sex Pistols and The Jam. It’s with great sadness that Wilko was diagnosed with terminal cancer of the pancreas at the beginning of this year and has recently completed a series of farewell live dates in the UK as well as completing a new album/DVD ‘Looking Back At Me’ (released 30 May 2013)

EMI have also released Dr Feelgood ‘All Through The City’, a DVD/CD compilation featuring rare unreleased tracks and more from the Wilko years.

The band continues to tour extensively throughout the world and will head to Plymouth this July to headline the Plymouth Beer Festival, following in the footsteps of previous headliners including Bob Geldof and Adrian Edmondson and his band.

Dr Feelgood will be on stage on the Saturday evening. The Plymouth Beer Festival will run at Plymouth Pavilions on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 July between 12noon & 11pm. Although you can purchase tickets on the door, booking in advance is strongly advised especially if you want to catch Dr Feelgood on stage on the Saturday evening, previous years have seen tickets sell out.

Live music on the Friday evening will come from 5 piece Irish themed band Shoot The Crow from Saltash.
