WESC held their charity golf day at Exeter Golf & Country Club on 12 May sponsored by ITEC. With a record 17 four-ball teams entering and over £7,000 raised, the Specialist Centre for Visual Impairment declared 2016 as their most successful charity golf day to date.

The winning Team ‘Fantastic Four’ made up of: Paul Laverick, Neil Gauntlett, Mark Wightman and Iain Creer were each presented with a bottle of champagne and a four-ball voucher courtesy of Exeter Golf & Country Club. Mark Peters VAT Associates were runners-up, followed closely by MJ Baker in third position.

The early morning wind and rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the ever-smiling golfers, who enjoyed a complimentary refreshment break at the WESC ‘Snack Shack’ on the 8th tee of the 18-hole course. By lunch-time the sun shone brightly and following the completion of the course, team members relaxed in the sunshine at the clubhouse and enjoyed a carvery as part of their team entry cost.

Funds raised from the day will go towards the ‘Outdoor Activities Fund’, which includes horse riding and an annual residential retreat for WESC learners at the Calvert Trust. Located on Exmoor, the Trust enables people with physical, learning, behavioural and sensory disabilities to experience exciting, challenging and enjoyable outdoor activities.

Next year’s golf day will again be held at the popular Exeter Golf & Country Club and includes all refreshments and awards ceremony.
