The Trustees of TRAC (Theatre Royal Applause Club), a separate charity from the Theatre Royal Plymouth, have generously supported a number of projects at the venue with their residual legacy funding following the Theatre starting their own membership scheme last year.

The TRAC Trustees looked to support improvement projects in the Theatre allocated from their remaining funds. After consulting their members and Theatre staff, six projects at the Theatre Royal Plymouth were kindly supported with the legacy fund.

Two new state of the art follow spots installed in the lighting control booth, a full replacement of the radio communication system within the Theatre, a new backstage show relay system, an iPad for the Front of House team to assist with customers queries promptly and replacing audio headsets and receivers for use by hard of hearing and blind patrons were the improvements funded.

The legacy fund also supported Playing With Shakespeare which was performed in The Lab by Theatre Royal Plymouth’s Playwright’s Forum to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.

Theatre Royal Plymouth invited the team of trustees from TRAC to visit the Theatre to see the new follow spot in action. The technical team explained how this generous donation will improve their work and allow them to provide enhanced lighting to large touring shows in The Lyric.

Jeanette Nicholls, Ex-Chairman of TRAC said “Whilst it was sad that TRAC had to close earlier in the year the Trustees and I are delighted that we can leave a lasting legacy.  Not only the large scale projects we supported but these final projects which have brought modern technology to enhance the work of the technical department and staff at TRP. They will benefit staff and audiences for a long time."

Helen Costello, Operations Director said “TRAC were so generous in supporting these projects.  Not only do we have some state of the art equipment that we would not have otherwise afforded, but we also have a very motivated workforce who are thrilled to use the new equipment and feel more professional and more engaged as a result.  So TRAC’s very generous gift has had a much wider effect than they might have ever imagined!”
