Man seriously assaulted in restaurant

Police are trying to trace a couple who may have witnessed a serious assault on a man at a Plymouth restaurant.

A 38-year-old man, from Plymouth, was in the Mesopotamia Restaurant, on Western Approach, at around 5.30pm on Monday 7 March 2016 when he was attacked following an argument.

The victim sustained a large cut to his head after being hit with objects and having objects thrown at him.

A police spokesperson said: “We understand there was a local couple eating in the restaurant at the time of the offence and they may have seen what happened.

“We are appealing for them to get in touch as they may be able to assist with our enquiries.”

Following the incident, a 31-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and criminal damage, and a 17-year-old local boy was arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

Both suspects have been released on police bail until Monday 4 April pending further enquiries.
