Eighteen people have been injured after two trains collided at Plymouth station on Sunday afternoon (3 April).

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 3.30pm.

All 18 casualties are reported to be in a stable condition. The majority were reported as walking wounded and eight of those were taken to Derriford Hospital.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "At 15.35 today, Sunday, 3 April, we were called to Plymouth railway station following reports that two passenger trains had been involved in a low speed collision at the station.

“A number of people, including the driver of one of the trains, have sustained injuries as a result of the collision.

“At this stage we believe that a moving train collided into the back of a stationary train on platform 6 at the station and we are currently looking into the circumstances to determine how this happened.”

The incident caused significant disruption to rail services in the South West.

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the crash.
